The local mountain of the Arthur-von-Schmid-Haus is a beautiful three-thousand metre mountain with great views and a challenging via ferrata to the mighty Säuleck.

Dösental rock glacier trail

The rock glacier at the head of the picturesque Dösental valley near Mallnitz is one of the largest of its kind. What at first glance looks like a field of rubble turns out on closer inspection to be a stream of debris and ice, which - like other glaciers - flows down into the valley.

Säuleck via ferrata

The via ferrata almost always runs along a jagged ridge and has numerous exciting climbing passages. The start is at an altitude of approx. 2700 m. For nature conservation reasons, the route was not equipped with footholds and staples, which means that the difficulty is in the D/E range. Good foot technique is therefore required on the exposed ridge passages. The descent is via the normal route to the Grazer Schartls, later back on the access route down to the Arthur-von-Schmid-Haus. Alternatively, you can descend from Grazer Schartl in the direction of Mallnitzer Scharte and descend below it via the Block Glacier in the direction of Dösensee to Arthur von Schmid Haus.

Rupertiweg stage 20, from the Arthur von Schmidhaus to the Reißeckhütte

High alpine mountain crossing of the Reißeck group. Allow a minimum of 8-9 hours for the entire route. For the ascent and descent from the two starting points (mountain huts), another half day should be planned for each.

Detmolder ridge to the Hochalmspitze

Magnificent, high-altitude via ferrata to the "Tauern Queen" Hochalmspitze. A long, high-alpine undertaking - more of a high-altitude tour than a via ferrata in the narrower sense. Safe walking on snowfields is just as important as mastering grade I-II climbing passages without steel rope protection.
